Short Introduction to AstroKarma 2.0 Astrological Software

The developer of AstroKarma, himself a practicing astrologer, has designed the software to follow the natural steps of karmic astrological delineation in order to make the work of astrology colleagues easier and to help students understand the interpretation stages of a natal chart. This method is based on Zsuzsanna Griga‘s teachings, who is one of the disciples of Judy Hall and the originator of Transcendental Karmic Astrology.

The second main aim was the creation of a dynamic graphic design. The chart can be easily altered so that only the relevant data is shown on screen. There is no need to generate separate charts for various times, aspects, or celestial bodies; the immediate changes that are made are easy to follow on screen. Attention is drawn to the imminent issues, and the user won’t drown in the ocean of lines and symbols that are less relevant in that particular moment of the delineation process.

When starting the program, a window appears where the necessary data for creating a natal chart can be given (name, date, time, geographical place, house system, etc.) Before typing any new data, the current transits appear. After typing in the name of the place, the geographical coordinates of the given place are selected by clicking on Check.

By clicking on Help, an active help window appears, which provides hints for the selected elements by pointing the cursor.

By clicking on Calculate, the natal chart appears. It provides the “inner sphere”, which is the basis for all further calculations – transits, secondary progressions, directions, or synastry placements can be created later on, and small celestial objects (see “SSSB sphere”) as well as fixed stars (see “Star Sphere”) can also be added.
By using the Time Shift, the chart is animated forward or backward in time.

The calculated chart shows the inner sphere only: the planets, the angles, the houses, and a few centaurs and asteroids that are relevant in karmic astrology.

In the submenu of Inner Sphere, additional celestial objects (View Objects and Midpoints) and aspects (View Aspects) can be selected dynamically, and the changes will appear immediately after selection. This feature provides astrologers with a great tool to distinguish the relevant issues of a natal chart without the confusion of too much data. The displayed objects and aspects can be changed by clicking on them, which enables the user to delineate the various layers of a natal chart (for example, first only the personal planets and their main aspects are considered, then the basic selection can be dynamically enlarged by adding other planets, celestial objects, and minor aspects).
A further option is the dynamic presentation of midpoints, which are indicated by yellow-black lines on the outer circle of the natal chart.

By clicking on the submenu Aspect Grid, the aspects of the selected celestial objects appear. By moving the cursor to the relevant positions, further astronomical data appear (longitude, declination, altitude, etc.). Empty cells also contain the exact distance between objects, which feature makes it easier to select a suitable orb.

The background of the cells that contain declinational aspects as well is light green. This is the window where synastry grids and transiting/progression aspect grids appear if selected.

In the submenu View, dissocial (out of sign) aspects can be selected. They are highlighted by a different cell background (red). By choosing the Selected Planets Only option, only the aspects of the previously selected celestial bodies appear.

By right-clicking on a cell of the Aspect Grid, the Interpretation window appears. It provides notepad space for planets in signs, houses, and aspects. At present, these are blank, with the aim that students and practicing astrologers should fill them in with their own interpretation insights. The Interpretation window can also be reached from the Interpretation tab of the natal chart.

The Data submenu of the SSSB Sphere is able to provide a list of 230 asteroids and centaurs. These objects can also be made to appear graphically on the outer circle of the natal chart.

Red data indicate a retrograde body or one in extreme declination (greater than 23.5°).

SSSB data -

Astrologers can add their own delineation tips and astronomical data to the small objects, which will be saved in the database of the software.

A search by name or MPC number is also available for asteroids (there are as many as 205,000 asteroids in the database). The astronomical data of the first 1000 asteroids (longitude, declination, speed) is contained in the build-in SwissEphemeris.

In the Define submenu of the SSSB Sphere menu, there are lists of selections based on various topics of the asteroids – a special selection can be made for each natal chart according to karmic issues that crop up.

The Data and Define submenus of Star Sphere menu work in a similar way. There are 83 fixed stars included in the main database, from which a unique selection can be made for each natal chart. Interpretation tips can be added accordingly. When searching by the name of a particular star, the astronomical data of 400 fixed stars are also included.

By clicking on the chart’s View / SSSB Sphere or Star Sphere, a graphic selection will appear on the outer ring of the chart.

Data helping delineation work appear in the menu of Analysis. Besides general data (General), there is a list of the tightest aspects (Aspect List), as well as the longitudinal and declinational aspects between inner objects and SSSB, inner objects and stars, and SSSB and stars (Outer Sphere). Orbs can be set here.

Psycho-genetic characteristics are listed in the Chronobiology page, with the graphs of biorhythm.

The next picture shows Madonna’s natal chart with transits for July 7, 2011, which was defined in the submenu of Forecast / Transits. In the View menu, by selecting Natal × Transits, the aspects between transiting planets on the outer ring to natal planets are shown. You can calculate Solar Arc, Progressions, or Solar Return as well.
In the submenu of Natal / View Objects + Midpoints the square positions of Saturn were also given: these are sensitive points, which are very useful when interpreting transits, and are indicated by yellow-black lines on the zodiac wheel.

Transits can be animated forward or backward in time, just like the natal chart, in the Transit window: the new placements and transiting aspects become immediately visible. The combined aspect grid is also refreshed at the same time.

By selecting the options of the View menu in the natal chart, one click brings up the natal aspects, as well as the graphic presentation of the fixed stars or the SSSB objects on the outer ring.

In the same manner, synastry charts can be generated (Synastry/Set). The next example displays the synastry chart of Madonna and Bruce Lee, viewing the aspects between them and the synastry grid. You can calculate the relationship (Davison), and the Midpoint Composite charts as well.
